Comparison Table

How We Choose Our Ratings

We spent hours researching different miter saw models to find the ones with the best prices, features, and customer reviews. We ranked them in order from our least favorite to our top favorite, though all of them are fantastic tools that outperform all the competition. Here are our choices for the ten best miter saws.

The 9 Best Miter Saws

As we searched for the best miter saws to review, we quickly discovered that there are two different classes of saws—consumer grade, and professional grade. The consumer grade saws are vastly cheaper than the professional grade saws, though they’re also less powerful. For that reason, we separated our list into two categories, so both beginners and experts can find the right saw for their needs.

The Top 6 Miter Saws—Consumer Grade

These saws are affordable for most beginner DIY-ers but are still quality saws that more experienced users can appreciate as well.

The model we reviewed (and the one linked above) was a Ryobi-certified refurbished saw with a one-year warranty.

The Ryobi P506 One+ Lithium Ion is a lightweight, 10-inch compound miter saw with a laser line. Electric brakes stop the saw automatically after use, and a dual-view bevel scale allows you to see it from either side. It miters up to 45 degrees on either side, with stops at 0, 15, 22.5, 30, and 40 degrees.

This saw comes with an integrated laser, a carbide-tipped blade, and a sawdust catcher bag.

Customers praised the accuracy of both the laser and the saw angles. The motor was very powerful despite the Ryobi being so lightweight and small. The saw is easy to put together with clear instructions, and customers found it to be great for the low cost.

Both the positive and negative reviewers agreed that the sawdust catcher bag is basically useless. Also, the laser runs on batteries and is too dim. More significantly, some customers complained that the laser line moved when they lowered the compound arm, so the blade doesn’t line up with it and their cuts come out wrong.

The Homecraft H26-260L by Delta Power Tools is another lightweight, easy to move 10-inch compound miter saw. It comes with an electric brake, sawdust collection bag, and an optional laser. An arbor lock and spindle lock keep the blade steady, while the power switch lockout function keeps the saw from being turned on unintentionally. It has angle detents that cut up to 45 degrees on the left and right.

Customers said that the Homecraft makes accurate cuts and it very easy to use. The ergonomic handle is comfortable to hold, and the saw works with most 3rd-party miter saw stands.

Once again, most reviewers thought the sawdust collection bag didn’t work well. Several customers reported that their motor burned out within a few months of irregular use, and others had to replace the control arm that locks the blade into a specific angle because it snapped off in the middle of being used.

The Makita LS1040 is a small, lightweight saw from a company that’s known for their high-quality power tools. It’s a 10-inch compound miter saw that comes with a carbide tipped blade, dust bag, socket wrench, triangular rule, and vertical vise. It miter-cuts from 0-45 degrees on the left and 0-52 degrees on the right.

Customers liked how easy this saw is to use, and how “old school” it feels. It makes precise and accurate cuts and feels powerful and strong. Though some customers would have liked more features such as a laser, others appreciated how simple the Makita saw is.

The product info page on Amazon lists the Makita LS1040 as made in America, but it’s actually manufactured in China, which upset a few customers. Others were unhappy with the lightweight aluminum construction because it feels less substantial than other miter saws from Makita. The motor burned out within two years of regular use for some customers as well.

The Hitachi C10FCG is another 10-inch, single-bevel compound miter saw. A saw blade, dust bag, vise assembly, hex bar wrench, and blade cover come with the saw. Though you can purchase the saw with a laser marker, the model we reviewed did not come with it. The angle detent can cut up to 52 degrees on both sides.

Beginner customers thought this was a great starter saw, because of how compact and easy to use it is. They found the handle and trigger very comfortable and ergonomic. The blade that comes with the saw made smooth and accurate cuts as well.

Some customers purchased the Hitachi C10FCG used and received damaged models that weren’t covered by the Hitachi warranty. Others complained that the sawdust collection unit doesn’t work well. Also, the mounting holes on the saw don’t line up with some third-party miter stands.

We chose the Dewalt DW715 and DW713 as our top two miter saws because they’re essentially different sizes of the same saw—12 and 10 inches respectively. They ‘re both single-bevel compound miter saws, and they each come with one carbide blade, a blade wrench, and a dust bag.

Both saws can miter up to 50 degrees on either side with 11 positive stops, and their detent override feature allows you to adjust the miter setting outside of those stops without worrying about the saw slipping into one of the detent stops.

Dewalt is a company known for their quality construction and excellent customer service, and many reviewers say these saws live up to that reputation. The 12-inch model costs $20 more than the 10-inch model, so some customers had trouble choosing which one to buy.

Other customers initially purchased the DW713, only to upgrade later to the DW715 because of how happy they were with the saw. The saws made clean, accurate cuts with enough power to easily get through harder wood like oak.

One major complaint from customers is that the newer models of these saws do not work with accessories made before 2012, so if you’ve purchased a “Type 1” LED or laser guide for an older Dewalt saw, it won’t be compatible with the newer “Type 2” saws. Some reviewers also received their saw with bowed fences, so they had to exchange them.

The Top 4 Miter Saws—Professional Grade

These would fit in at any job site, despite being half the cost of most heavy-duty miter saws.

Makita makes our list again with their LS1016L model 10-inch dual slide compound miter saw. This heavy-duty saw features a 4-steel rail sliding system, a built-in laser, and the largest crown molding cutting capacity in its class.

The four sliding fences and dual rear-handle bevel lock ensure that your miter and bevel cuts will be perfectly precise. This ergonomic and lightweight saw comes with a 60T saw blade, vertical vise, dust bag, triangular rule, socket wrench, and hex wrench.

Customers appreciated the double-handled bevel lock lever and the excellent power and torque that allows the saw to cut through all hard and soft woods. The soft-start motor enables the saw to start up without any recoil even though the motor is running at full speed.

As with many of the saws on our list, the dust collection system doesn’t work very well. Customers complained that the instruction manual for the saw is poorly written and hard to follow. Some reviewers received a damaged saw due to the relatively flimsy box it’s shipped in, and others found the fencing too wobbly.

The Bosch GCM125D is a 12-inch miter saw with dual bevels. The proprietary Axial-Glide system allows for complete control over the saw’s cutting action., along with enhanced alignment and a smooth glide. The saw comes with a 60T blade, material clamp, blade wrench, 90-degree dust chute elbow/vacuum adaptor, and dust bag.

The quick-release squarelock fences have a one-touch lock/unlock feature so you can easily slide each fence into position for accurate alignment. The bevel capacity allows cutting angles from 0-47 degrees on both sides.

Customers praised the accuracy of the Bosch GCM125D, as well as the space-saving design that makes it easier to use in cramped job sites and workshops. The instruction manual is easy to follow, and the saw works beautifully right out of the box.

Some users had issues with the glide arm being crooked, making it difficult to cut square. Others were disappointed with the framing blade that comes with the saw because it’s only designed for rougher work. The lack of lasers and LEDs also rubbed some people the wrong way, because of how much money they spent on the saw.

The next Dewalt saw we considered was the DWS780, a 12-inch double bevel sliding compound miter saw. The tall sliding fences and back fence, along with the increased miter capacity, means you can cut larger pieces with more precision than other models. The saw comes with a 12-inch carbide blade, blade wrench, dust bag, and vertical material clamp.

The saw’s handle design allows for easy portability, and the rugged guards, precision-machined castings, and stainless steel miter detent plate make the saw durable enough to be used on professional job sites.

Reviewers loved the 16-inch cut depth of the DWS780, and how smooth, quiet, and accurate it is. The shadow line lights up your cut area to show where your blade will cut, which improves accuracy. The saw comes out of the box fully assembled, so all you need to do is attach the blade and you can start using it. Customers say the slide is smooth as butter, and the saw is very well balanced.

Some customers thought the blade that came with the saw worked well for most jobs, but others were unhappy with it. A few reviewers found the work surface too small for their liking as well.

The Dewalt DWS779 is a smaller, less expensive version of the DWS780. It has almost all of the same features—it only lacks the XPS laser light that comes with the other model. Since there’s a price difference of about $100, it’s up to you to decide if that light is worth the extra cost.

Many customers prefer the DWS779 over the more expensive model because its slide mechanism is a little smoother, and the motor isn’t quite as loud. Overall, Amazon customers gave the DWS779 a 0.2-star higher rating than the DWS780.

These slight differences between the DWS780 and the DWS779 are what led us to choose the latter model as our top pick for the best miter saw. This saw more than lives up to the reputation for quality power tools that Dewalt has cultivated over the years.

The gap between the “consumer” miter saws and the “professional” miter saws is relatively small. In addition to costing a couple of hundred bucks more, the professional models are dual beveled sliding miter saws, whereas the consumer models are only single beveled.

If you’ve never used a miter saw before, we recommend one of the less expensive beginner models. Once you’ve moved on to more complicated projects, you can upgrade to a version with more bells and whistles.

Despite our rankings, we love all of the miter saws on our list and believe each of them would make excellent additions to any DIY-er’s workshop.
